Why Christians should not pray

December 12th 2006 06:42
Hello to every one out there today? how are you all. This is the old man here. have you ever wondered why Christians pray? and whether or not their prayers will ever be answered? I suppose alot of praying can tend to help us from time to time, but are prayers really for? For example, if I were to look at the Biblical account of Joshua or David, I would find that they were always praying to God, before they did anything else. For example, Joshua was minding his own business as a Godly man and prophet of God, when called him to go up to the city of Jerrico. Joshua then went and put some time and thought into it and came back to God with, how am I going to destory jerrico as it is surely a large city, filled with thousnads and millions of people. And it is well fortified, with a very high wall all around it. I am very willing said he to god, to obey Him in any thing, but this ones seems to be beyond his abilities and that of His People. So as he had already meditated on these things, he then made up his mind to obey God in what was required of him. But he had no idea of what or how he was going to use in defeating the city walls of Jerrico let alone the army and people within its walls. So he ten went and prayed to god about it, and then as he was praying to God, God came to him and told him what he must do. he had together all of his people and the priests and the levites and the trumpet blowers and so on around him, and they were to march up to the city walls and to surround them and to keep them in for seven days. Plus theyw ere alos to keep absolutely quiet in those seven days. And each day, only the trumpet players were allowed to be heard each day as they marched around the outer walls each day for seven days, with the people waliking in quiet along side of them. and on the Seventh day they were all to shout with aloud voice and the walls would come tumblinjg down, and then they were to storm the city and take it by force and to dewstroy all of the inhabitants and so on.

Which they did do. And they ahd the victory in God's name, for those people were a horrid and despictable people.

I also remembered David when under King Nebuchednesser where the kings magicians and sorcerers, and seers and bakers and lawyers, and other advicers, were against David, for his Godly life, and for how he trusted in God. of how theys et a trap for him by making the king make a royal decree that it was a punishable by death offence for anyone who would worship any other god in the next thirty days except for the king and his huge golden graven image of himself. When david heread of thisdecree he knew in his heart, what he ahd to do: he had to disobey this decree, even knowing it could mean his life. At that moment, as he set his heart to worship God and to pray to Him only, he went forth to his chambers and opened his lounge room windows and knelt beside it in full view ofevry one and began praying day and night from that time on. As he did so, his tormenters walked by underneath it and saw him praying to God adn went happily to thier king and reported to him, of david's actions. So the king necame very angry and called him in t his presence, and judged him and found him guilty, for david, said it was proper for to worship only his god, the God of all Israel. So the King had to put him todeath and sent him to the lions den, and covered it in, so he could not escape his punishment. The next morning the king came early to the lions den and asked if he were still alive, and David asnwered that he was. On being set free, the king heard David out and the people who had conspired against him and their families were all put to death by the king for their falsehoods and treachery. For the King new that David was his bestfriend and great advisor, whose advice had always prospered his people, and that the God of all Isreal was the only good and mighty and powerful God above every other god, and the only one worthy of all honour, praise and woship.

But why do Christians need to pray for, for today? is there any real persecution against them today? What do Christians pray for today? are they in need of deliverance from tyranny? if so from whom? If they are praying for a resurection or a revival or a reformation of some kind, then what are theya ctually prepared to do about it? have theyreally set their tasks down on paper? have they really all gathered together and sorted out who the real McCoys truly are,? have they really seperated the pretenders from amongst the flock, as they did in the days of Ezra in chapters nine and ten. Are their wives and children really submissive under the care and guidance of the loving husbands and fathers, as in Numbers chapter thirty? What ahve they really done to take stock of their situation and made all possible calculations as to what the cost of such reforms will actually cost them, regarding public opinion and the current laws for religous vilification and so on? have they really sat down and worked it all out. if so, then when is it time for prayer? is it before they go into action of afterthey have done all of theirresearch and copunted all ofthe costs and said in their hearts - alright, we know what we have to do, and now we had better take these things to God in prayer for His divine and holy blessings to cary us through the rough days ahead, with a courage built and sealed in faith in God himself, to carry them onward and onto victory?

Well, if there is no real need for such prayers, then why do Christians need to pray at all for?

So I leave it to you dear reader and Christian alike, for you to comment on when next you can, except for those, to whom I have disaalowed to make any further comments on any of my articles. to those I can only pray to God for their redemption.

Bye for now, in faith, The Old man.

Prayer is a dialogue, not a monologue.

Hello there JoshZ, I confess that any kind of dialogue comes only from a decision to follow a certain course of action, when one has decided to take and at that time, they are prepared to follow through with it. How many times have you made up your mind to do some thing for yourself and for others and then prayed about it that you are sucessful in your endeavours. had you already counted the cost of the results of the decision you were about to make, prior to making it?
If so, was it at that time you prayed for a favourable out come? Then I would say that prayer is both dialogue and monologue at the same time? what do you think? How ever, JoshZ...to be a man, is to be an officer, of honour, in marriage as well as out of it...other wise we can only be considered a coward.

Why do Christians need to pray for, when they have seldom considered fully, what their needs really are and what they are really prepared to do about it, prior to being in the presence of the living God and asking Him for His strength and support, in such endeavours?

I think it would be better for all those who call them selves Christian (and I am a Christian) to take a second look at their so called ace up their sleeve...because many of them will find there is no ace in the hole.

As a Christian, we can never be so fully abiding to the laws of the world, as most of them are curently practicing. Jesus commanded that we have to render unto Ceasar what is his, and to God what is truly His...and in this the only authority over anyone who considers themselves to be a true blue effectually called Christian, is the Holy Bible , and they must use only the Westminster Confession of faith, as their only textual reference guide to all of the tenets of Scripture ( of how the PRC has defended it).

I do not know JoshZ, if you are a Confessing Christian or not....nor how old you are....but I am, and I am well over fifty and staring eighty in the face.

I hope this little bit of explaining will help you??

in faith, The Old Man.

Not really. For one thing, you threw too many words in. That which is said well is said succinctly.

What I mean by prayer being a dialogue is that it is not simply talking to God but alot of it is listening as well. Alot of christians are brilliant at telling God everything, but not so good at listening to what He says.

That is why I think christians have to pray. Christianity is not merely a set of rules to follow (though there are rules), it is a relationship with God.

Hello JZ, and thanks again for your latest reply.....I tend to agree with you. How ever, when it comes to what we should pray about and to whom we should pray to, and to the type of company we are keeping in prayer time, whether it be with other freinds, or by our selves, we ought to be minbdful of what Scripture says about praying, both from the Old Testament and the New Testament.

I am thinking of the times when others who are clearly not Christian biblically speaking (The Tares that were planted next to the Wheat, by Satan, who is the enemy of Jesus and of His Commandments and Laws, and of His effectually called and Predestinated chosen People)..

want to join in and be a part of our prayer time as if they really are a true blue biblical Christian. For this we should never do.

As Scripture always says we must think well before we pray for ought. And to be able to count the cost well before we bring our rpayers to God, before we commit te problem or situation to God for His commandment and directive in the matter.

You may well know of the many times King David as a shepherd boy and as a well respected son in law of king Saul, and then as percieved to be an enemy of king saul, and then as king David, how he prayed as to what he should do nect. Should he go out and fight this army or that army and so on....

This is where when people who call them selves pray for a reformation of the Church and through out the land, they live in...there is little understanding and action as to what that prayer actually means..You can look at the record of Rev.John Knox who was the first reformationist to bring true Reformation preaching to Scotland back in the 1500's.

You will see what kind of prayer he had asked for and to what extent God had intended him to go about it. He knew the cost before he prayed to God about it. That's why he went to God and asked him for the Strength and courage to be able to follow through with it no matter hw long it took and no matter if he had to be killed in the process.

Thanks again. The old man.

Anyway if you want me to write on some thing of interest to you, then please let me know and I will do what I can to develop my sttyle with you.

So bye for now, and drop me aline when you can...And no swearing at all.

Thanks, in faith, The Old man.
