Our Aussie neighbour daydream
By : The Old Man 1/2/2006
Just who do you think you are? Where did you come from? What makes you think you are right all the time? Is your favourite motto ‘have a drink on me’ ? Who do you pay your taxes to? Are you a true blue Aussie? What is a true blue Aussie? Well lets look at debunking the myths of what is and who is my great Australian neighbour. Does the word ‘multicultural’ mean any thing to you? Does it inspire you to great heights of joy and wonder when ever you hear it being spoken by any one, let alone your neighbour? Is it a lie? Does my neighbour regard you and me as their multicultural next door neighbour and multicultural next door friend? Its rather a stupid word which if any, makes divisions rather than unifies you and me as neighbours. How do I see you as my next door neighbour? And how do you see me, and how should we look at each other? Well that’s the myth isn’t it?
Is it really all about how you see me, or how I see you? Or is it about how some twit, some where wants to try out new sissy type words just for fun, to see if they have a super human ability to change every ones ideas for their better good? Well I have news for them. You need to go back to kinder garden and learn you’re A.B.C’s. all over again and also learn proper English Grammar and if your parents are still alive, ask them to teach you how not to be too smart and self centred for your own good. Obviously you need another grounding in personal manners and consideration for others, for this is the crux of the problem for every one today. You are obviously not satisfied with your own personal identity, and so you want to change every one else’s to suit your own selfish greedy spoiled rotten gains. You have also forgotten a very basic understanding of who is and who is not an Australian Neighbour. A neighbour who lives in Australian, is some one, who lives in Australia, works in Australia, and pays Australian taxes, and who has an Australian passport. But more than that, they are our next door neighbour, simply because they live in Australia.
Let me explain to you the real Australian neighbour, as I have come to know of him for all of my life so far. In fact I will put my answer in praise form, just so as you can see for your self how to be more considerate of your fellow man and next door neighbour. What a wonderful person you are! Your smile, your warmth, your touch, your lessons brings lasting happiness to our souls. Where would we be, if you were not right by our sides? How much more different would our lives be, if you were not next door? From the bush to our sea shores, you are spread all over the place. Oh what pleasures you do bring to us from your kitchens, homes and gardens? We find you where ever we go, and there you are. Its as if you knew of our plans and had already wanted to be there ahead of us, just to welcome us again, in our new place. No where on earth can we go, with out finding you close by and willing to lend a helping hand. Your lights are on day and night and your thoughts are always filled with ways in which to please.
Getting to know you, is one of the most exciting times of our lives. We are always amazed at your variety of colour, height, weight, age and gender. No one of you are always alike except that we are all Men, Women and Children. Each of us, is a son and daughter and mother and father, husband and wife. The similarities are amazing. The very nature of you helps me to explore a thousand different feelings, likes and dislikes, smiles and frowns, habits and tastes. Your style of dress and language of speech, colour my world daily. Your smiles and laughter and cries can be heard daily echoing across our small boundaries that we call fences. Our parties, marriages, deaths and births are filled with your presence, ever reminding us to be grateful for your friendship and company. Our Schools, Universities, TAFE’s, buses, trains, trams, parks, gardens, camping grounds, beaches, air planes, ships, and cars are filled with your wonderful presence. You make our lives that much more enjoyable. Your sense of right and wrong, good and bad, yes and no, keep us entertained and on our toes daily, helping us to make sure we know for our selves, these very same character forming human moral and ethical traits, that you live by. With out your examples we would seldom have time to test our selves to see if we too are on the right path, in all of these things. You are the teachers, law makers, plumbers, gasfitters, mechanics, native speakers, swimmers, electricians, bus drivers, politicians, winners, readers, writers, poets, singers, song writers, spellers, musicians, dancers, authors, draftsman, mathematicians, scientists, doctors, scholars, shop owners, builders, empire makers, leaders bread winners and examples of day and of tomorrow. With out you there can be no Us, nor can there be a We. Our nation and country can never reach its fullest possible potential with out you. So lets drop the bad attitudes of these so spoiled little brats, who want to give you and me another identity and a new name, which I don’t like it, and I hope you don’t like it either? Because, I know who you are. They are wrong, because like me, you are not just a sample piece of material, because you live and breath and laugh and cry just like I do, and you live next door to me and you work in my businesses and you pay your taxes just like me. You are my neighbour, and not just any neighbour, you are my Australian neighbour. It is really good to have a go at a daydream, They build so much dreams of wealth and ever lasting effects, which no one should live to miss out on.
So the next time you see me, just smile as you normally do and say G’day neighbour as you normally do, and I will know who you are, with thanks, your friend and your neighbour.
in faith, The Old Man.
